With the day to depart on our First Class flights to NYC finally upon us, we made the short journey from the Hilton Da Nang to Da Nang International Airport for check-in. The check-in process was slow and the attendant was insistent about seeing our approved ESTA, which I couldn’t retrieve at the time. After accepting defeat she handed us our boarding passes for DAD-HKG and HKG-JFK with an invite to experience the Orchid Lounge Da Nang and The Pier or The Wing once we touched down in Hong Kong.
Orchid Lounge Location
Once through departures and customs, take a right and walk towards Gate 7 and 8. Soon, you’ll arrive at a big red sign that says ‘Orchid Lounge’ with a staircase and a lift that takes you up to the second level where the entrance is, it’s pretty hard to miss in such a small airport – particularly given the fact it’s the only lounge at DAD.
The board at the bottom of the stairs had a logo for just about every airline in the world, catering to First and Business travellers as well as OneWorld Emerald and Sapphire Members.
Ambience & Design
When we first discovered the kitsch sign, I was sure we were in for a laugh at the Orchid Lounge, however once up the stairs we were greeted with a nice foyer, smiling staff, and a rather pleasant, very empty (we were literally the only people in there for the first 30 minutes), lounge. There’s no arguing that it’s all a bit haphazard design wise but it’s clean, modern and offers free massage chairs, private booths, and an excellent range of seating options.
A small sitting area with a dining room welcomes you, with a hot Asian buffet and continental dining choices on each side of the space. As you progress into the lounge there are more seating choices on offer with a larger rear room that has individual work stations with iMacs, the private relaxation/TV booths, and a secluded area with the massage chairs.
Food & Drink
I found the food and drink offering at the Orchid Lounge quite impressive, and some of it quite tasty. I chose a handful of items from the hot selection, sampling the fried rice with some dumplings and a some
Can I just say that I love a massage chair, especially when they’re free. The Orchid Lounge has two out the front and two in the lounge and with the lounge empty I didn’t feel one iota of guilt indulging in 40mins worth of therapy. Running along the rear wall a bunch of private booths with screens in them which looked interesting and in the centre of the room, tables with iMacs. The Wifi is capable and has no password, which is refreshing. Inside the male bathroom there was one shower.
Bravo CIP Orchid Lounge Da Nang, easily one of the best pay to enter lounges I’ve been in and a whole lot better than many of the business lounges I’ve visited. Even if you’re not holding a Business or First ticket, or Elite Status the Orchid Lounge is worth every cent if you happen to be at Da Nang International. Stick with the Asian food, nab yourself a massage chair and enjoy.
